A yellow Talon helicopter seen hovering over Williams Lake Saturday morning, May 27 was conducting an aerial inspection for FortisBC Energy Inc.
Every year FortisBC surveys its natural gas transmission lines to ensure the gas system continues to operate safely and reliably, said Holly Harrison, corporate communications specialist with FortisBC in an emailed response.
“As part of our integrity management program, we inspect sections of our gas transmission lines each year to detect small issues before they become larger problems.”
Talon Helicopters does Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) mapping for FortisBC, which requires flying at low altitude to inspect the lines, which have been previously inspected by foot.
The aerial inspections began the first of May and while anticipated to continue until the middle of June, were actually completed on Monday, May 29, Talon Helicopters confirmed.
