Snow mixed with ice pellets in forecast for Williams Lake

Snowfall warning for Bella Coola, Cache Creek and Prince George

Some residents and business owners in Williams Lake are out shovelling Friday morning, Jan. 19 as the city receives more snow.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Williams Lake shows the area will receive snow and ice pellets in the amount of five cm, with a low -6 C and a windchill of -23 C in the morning warming up a windchill of -14 C by afternoon.

It is colder west of Williams Lake.

Puntzi Mountain is -12 C with a low of -17 C Friday evening, also with a chance of flurries mixed with ice pellets.

The wind chill is -24 C, and expected to warm up slightly to -19 C windchill in the afternoon.

Bella Coola has a snowfall warning with about 10 cm of snow expected, followed by freezing rain Friday night to Saturday.

Drivers are warned to watch for slippery sections on Highway 20 from 16 km east of Bella Coola to 44 km west of Williams Lake.

There is also blowing snow and limited visibility along Highway 20 and compact snow.

Highway 97 is the same, with slippery sections, compact snow and blowing snow.

There are snowfall warnings for the Prince George and Cache Creek areas.

Prince George is expected to receive 10 to 15 cm by Saturday morning and the Cache Creek area can expect up to 10 cm.
