Donations of warm clothes, bedding accepted in Williams Lake

Salvation Army manager said the store has caught up with its backlog

As winter approaches and residents are inspired to donate warm clothing there are several options to choose from in Williams Lake.

This week the Salvation Army Thrift Store began accepting donations again.

“We had to catch up,” said manager Helene Hartley on Tuesday, Oct. 17. “We were overflowing with donations.”

Additionally, the store has been closed for a few Saturdays, but will re-open Saturdays, beginning Oct. 28, she confirmed.

Hartley also wanted to let the public know there is a $2.50 bag sale for children’s clothing every month around the 20th when the Canada Child Benefit payments are made.

There is also a $7.99 bag sale for any clothing on the last Friday of every month.

Carolyn’s Closet at 105 B Second Avenue North is also accepting donations.

Store hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, unless otherwise stated.

At BGC Williams Lake there is a stock pile available of clothing, bedding and footwear for clients.

Harm reduction clients can make appointments or have clothing chosen for them by calling Laurel White 250-305-4235.

Donations of bedding, boots, shoes or adult-sized clothing, excluding under garments, in good condition are welcome.

Donations of men’s and women’s boots and coats are also being accepted at the Cariboo Friendship Society, 99 Third Ave. South during business hours at the front desk.

Daily Stash Cannabis at 250 Mackenzie Ave. South is accepting donations of warm clothing in good condition.

There are hangars outside the store to add donations to or if someone has more than a few items they can drop them off inside the store and the staff will hang them outside to keep the supply replenished.

The Grace Boutique at 41 First Ave. accepts women’s wear only, with all proceeds staying in Williams Lake to help fight addiction.

Store hours are Monday and Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Women’s Contact Society also accepts donations of children’s clothing in good condition, confirmed executive director Irene Willsie.
